Mountain Multiplicity: The WSSF Event You Don’t Want to Miss

Mountain Multiplicity: The WSSF Event You Don’t Want to Miss

Whistler, get ready.

You might be preoccupied playing in the 80+ centimetres of snow we received in the past week, but you’ll want to come up for fresh air to organize your World Ski and Snowboard Festival experience.

You already know this, but WSSF is the event of the year. The combination of sports, tunes, arts, film, photography, stories and all around mountain culture makes for an unforgettable week. Upon its conclusion, the entire town shall enter hibernation until the first cannonball into Alta Lake. Winter 2014: it’s now or never.

Some tickets have already sold out (the Olympus 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown). Some will inevitably sell out in the next week or two (Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown). You know “the big ones”—but you might not know about Mountain Life's MULTIPLICITY Show. After reading this, you’ll have no excuses.

As I mentioned last year, Mountain Multiplicity is the most underrated event of the World Ski and Snowboard Festival. The event consists of a handful or two of the world’s most interesting people (no, really). It’s like TEDTalks of the mountain: each speaker has a few minutes to share their most compelling story with you. Some rely solely on words, others use photos, film, or other media to tell their tales.

You need to see it to fully understand it, so get your tickets now (a modest $20 for possibly the most entertaining evening of the year). Here’s a sneak peak of the talent on board this year:

Wade Davis — Mountain Culture NOT As We Know It

If you think being an explorer with National Geographic sounds like the coolest job ever, you NEED to see Wade’s talk—THAT IS HIS ACTUAL JOB. He’s an expert in anthropology and botany, has written 15 books and produced a documentary with National Geographic, and has a story or two to share that will surely knock your Merino wool ski socks off.

Andy Dittrich — Biggest & Baddest

Andy travelled through five continents with the Discovery Channel to photograph the world’s most exotic creatures. Now, this local photographer has come home to share his best work and surely a few stories from the field.

Mandy-Rae Cruikshank -- Into the Deep
You’ve probably heard of the documentary “The Cove”, about the dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan. If so, you might recognize Mandy-Rae’s name—she was in the film. This freediver is here to share her experiences exploring the unknown worlds beneath the water. She knows what she’s talking about: she’s won multiple World Championships and holds seven world records.

This is only HALF of the roster—you’ll have to come to the event to learn the rest (okay, okay, or you could just visit the official Mountain Multiplicity page). I’ll see you there—I’ll be the one dragging my jaw on the ground.

Psssttt ! Envoie-ça à ton ami!
