What To Watch On Netflix Canada In April

What To Watch On Netflix Canada In April

This is the first instalment of a monthly post to help you sift through the pile of movies on Netflix and get right to the goods.

[COMEDY] The History Of Future Folk - This quirky deadpan comedy is really hard to describe but is probably on of the best movies I've seen in the last year and keeps me wishing I could find more exactly like it. Just watch it.

An alien ordered to colonize Earth abandons his mission when he hears music for the first time and is determined to save his
adopted planet.

[COMEDY] Zombieland - Zombie comedy featuring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and a host of others, including a hilarious cameo by Bill Murray playing himself. Instant classic

Looking to survive in a world taken over by zombies, a dorky college student teams with an urban roughneck and a pair of grifter sisters.

[COMEDY] Pineapple Express - This stoner movie is about as good as it gets and an absolute must watch - or rewatch - on pretty much any hangover day.

In this stoner buddy comedy, a lazy pothead must go on the run with his dealer after witnessing a murder involving a corrupt cop and a drug kingpin.

[DOCUMENTARY] Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me - A fascinating, well-made documentary telling the story of one of the best rock bands in history who, through a series of misfortunes, failed to ever gain any commercial success.

This documentary explores the history of Memphis rock band Big Star, which experienced commercial failure but influenced major artists such as REM.

[TV SHOW] Trailer Park Boys (Seasons 1-7)  - Pretty much the best TV show ever made, and it happens to be Canadian which makes it all the better. I could watch and rewatch all these episodes forever.

Follow the booze-fueled misadventures of three longtime pals and petty serial criminals who run scams from their Nova Scotia trailer park.

[DRAMA] Midnight In Paris - Something a tad more serious but still light-hearted and a great watch, this movie stars Owen Wilson as a struggling writer stuck in the stodgy upper-class world of his bitchy fiance who manages to escape to the past era of his literally heroes. Trust me, this is a gooder.

A young couple's experiences traveling together in Paris make them begin to question the kind of life they want to live.

[TV SHOW] Boss (2 Seasons) - Another political TV show featuring a ruthless main character, this one takes us inside the no-holds-barred world of Chicago city politics and features Kelsey Grammer as one badass dude.

Kelsey Grammer stars in this dark drama as Chicago mayor Tom Kane, a viperous politician unafraid to step outside the law when it suits his interests.

[COMEDY] The Internship - Not quite an instant-classic like some of their past work but this is a great comedy nonetheless full of some great lines by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn.

Two out-of-work salesmen, lacking the digital-savvy skills they need to find jobs, sign on as interns at a high-tech company.

[SNOARDBOARD] Jake Blauvelt: Naturally - The two-year project of snowboard pro Jake Blauvelt is a work of art featuring some of the best snowboarding around, filmed in incredible quality. Travel the world to some of the best pow stashes with Blauvelt, Eric Jackson and others.

In far-flung locations with breathtaking scenery, a talented and stylish snowboarder shows off his killer skills across the globe.

[SKI/SNOWBOARD] Valhalla - This ski/snowboard movie from Nelson, BC based production crew Sweetgrass Productions is perhaps the best "non part-based" snow-sports movie we've ever seen. Half art, half action, this movie is about as good as it gets for lovers of deep snow, high-end filmmaking and emotional storytelling through sports. Just watch it and you'll instantly understand.

Uniquely structured, this daring ski film explodes the boundaries of the genre, opening the eyes and melting the hearts of any story-loving soul.
