According to the old gurus of drift in Québec, the tradition seems to be that the rain normally invites itself to the Round 1 of the DMCC championship every year… It was true last year, and this was unfortunately the case again this year. The photographer writing these lines was not particularly pleased.

This sport, which seems to be based on the loss of control of a vehicle, however, is quite the contrary. The basis of this sport is the control of the car, the angle that driver manages to give his car, the proximity to his opponent, the of the tires burning on the asphalt ... The rain severely complicates things, as much for the drivers as for us poor medias!

Unfortunately, the organizers do not control Mother Nature. Rain or not, "The show must go on". And it was therefore under the rain that the cars got on track for the first turns to the 2014 Dmcc Championship.

The practices and qualifications where held in the sometimes very strong rain. Jeff Laflamme managed to navigate the waves to grab top spot after the qualifications.

Something new this year is the introduction of the trophy for the highest speed of initiation in qualifications. Eric Paradis wowed everyone with a speed of 148 Km/h during his first qualification run and this in the rain!

The sun finally showed his nose at the start of the competition tandems, but the top 16 was unfortunately dotted with problems for the drivers.

The still wet track gave a hard time to most, and unfortunately some of them also had to deal with mechanical problems. This was the case for Francis Tassé, defending champion of 2013, forced to abandon in top 4 against Maxime Poirier because of electrical gremlins. He would succeed in repairing in time to come fight Kevin Morin, defeated by Jonathan Guitard, to decide third place of the podium. Tassé would come out on top of this battle

The final wasn’t much of a final. Maxime Poirier saw a suspension fail, giving the victory to Jonathan Guitard for this first round of the 2014 DMCC championship!

The action resumes this Saturday, June 28th, at circuit iCar Mirabel that hosts this year’s round 2!
