Clothes Made for Exploring: Meet Eddie Bauer's Travex Collection

Eddie Bauer makes basics-- but these basics are not so basic.

Yes, Eddie Bauer clothes provide the perfect base, no matter what activity you're doing: hiking, running, ziplining, traveling, walking, or just meeting friends to do whatever.

But these clothes are not the plain kind of basic. In fact, they are far from it. From fabric to fit, Eddie Bauer is tuned into the little details that make clothes functional.

Let me back up a bit-- I was lucky enough to test out a pretty wide selection of Eddie Bauer's women's line. When my bounty arrived, the first thing I noticed was variety of colour. Discovery # 1: your core wardrobe doesn't have to be boring. Don't be afraid of a little purple.

Case in point: this wine-coloured down jacket. The MicroTherm Down Jacket is incredibly warm, incredibly light, and incredibly easy to squish down into a backpack when you're heading off onto a hike. And as my model friend above shows, it's definitely cute enough to wear out and about.

Which brings me to Discovery # 2: these clothes are made for enjoying outdoor activities, but not at the sacrifice of style. Take the Infinity Button Up Shirt: I really love the way it fits and looks for normal casual wear, but there's more than meets the eye: it's made using their exclusive moisture management technology, FreeDry, so you can actually wear it while being active, plus it has built in UPF-- music to the ears of someone with a sunscreen allergy (that would be me).

Moving right along to Discovery #3: THESE CLOTHES ARE PERFECT FOR TRAVELLING. Eddie Bauer's Travex collection says that is is "made for trek & travel", and it's true. These clothes are ultralight and can be squeezed into the smallest of packs without taking much room and without wrinkling. They're made for moving, and can be dressed up or dressed down. You can spend the morning wandering the streets of a city, the afternoon checking out a local hike, and the evening in a local watering hole without making a costume change, save maybe for adding a scarf or something.
Meet the Horizon Roll Up Pant. When I first saw these pants, I was stoked: lightweight yet durable, they seemed like the perfect pants for a hardcore hike. Then I surfed onto the website, and here's the same pair of pants being worn by a babe in the Mediterranean or something. That's what I mean: this Eddie Bauer line works for everything.

Discovery # 4: The clothes are actually suitable for being active. Some of these clothes are so not sporty looking, that it's hard to believe that they can hold their own. Well, they can. My sister and I spent a day in our Coastal temperature rainforest (read: the weather changed five times in the day) donning the Sandstone Soft Shell Jacket (yes, we matched), and it easily passed the test. The little details-- the pockets, the super soft fabric lining the neck, the water-repellant/wind-resistant fabric-- made it perfect for exploring around Whistler.

I'm going to sum up all of my discovers for you in one top: the Aster Cami.
  • Discovery #1: This top is anything but boring. Bring it on, print.
  • Discovery #2: The shape and fit of this top mean that it could definitely be worn with a blazer and jeans for a casual night out.
  • Discovery #3: It's versatile enough to be worn on a run, on a hike, out for lunch, or on a long plane ride-- and it would take up no room in your luggage. This top is a traveler's staple.
  • Discovery #4: The Aster Cami performed perfectly on a speedy hike around Whistler, and yep-- the built in shelf bra held its own.

Let me leave you with some breaking news: every piece of clothing I talked about here-- and many more-- is on sale, right now. Awesome clothes at awesome prices-- it's too good to pass up on. Go forth, fellow adventurers!
