As you get ready to strap your bindings on for the first time this season, take a minute to stop and reflect on how incredibly awesome snowboarding really is.

No really, it is. It makes you feel like you’re flying. It makes you forget all those little things that stress you out – and the big things, too. It makes you oblivious to the fact that you’re freezing cold and soaking wet – riding out is simply not an option when there is more powder to be had.

But it’s also pretty cool to think about how much this young sport has evolved over a relatively short amount of time. Snowboarding’s freshest crop of rising legends can feasibly shred a line with the sport’s pioneers – and that’s a pretty rare thing for any sport.

Whether you’re a brand new snowboarder or you’ve been at it since the start, you owe it to yourself to reflect back on how far this sport has come. The best way to do this is to curl up on your couch – preferably the night before opening day – and check out Oakley’s latest flick, Snowboarding For Me.

Snowboarding For Me features athletes—both long-timers and relatively newcomers – as they share their own personal snowboarding stories. Athletes like JP Walker, Shaun White, Torstein Horgmo, and Mark McMorris reflect on their biggest influencers, the tricks that changed the course of snowboarding, the state of the sport today, and where it’s going tomorrow. It’s enough to make you a little teary eyed (spoiler alert: you won’t be the only one shedding a tear in this film).

The film premiere tour has already come and gone, and trust me – watching the film alongside its stars while in Halloween costume is pretty fun – but you can catch it on ABC on November 23 at 1 PM PST. Or better yet, get it from iTunes and watch it whenever you want, wherever you want, and as often as you want.

Psssttt ! Envoie-ça à ton ami!
