Your Unofficial To Do List for the Wanderlust Yoga Festival

Let’s take a moment to dispel a few myths, shall we?

Wanderlust is not just for advanced yoga aficionados.

Wanderlust is not just for people who look mad hot in yoga pants.

Wanderlust is not just for hippies.

Sure, you’ll come across some pro yogis, fine-looking bottoms, and peaceful people at Wanderlust. But you’ll also find people who have no sense of balance, who don’t own yoga-specific clothes, and who have never once hugged a tree in their life.

Wanderlust, you see, is a yoga festival for everyone. Think of it like this: you don’t have to be an expert on beer to have a good time at a beer festival. The same goes for yoga.

So step out of your comfort zone and into your comfortable clothing and give Wanderlust a try. Need a gentle push? Here’s a list of events to tick off to get the full Wanderlust Experience.

One Water Based Activity

You can guarantee that any yoga class on water – whether it’s SUP yoga or surfboard yoga – is going to be clumsy, awkward, and a lot of fun. It’s a physical challenge combined with a mentral refresh (have you seen Whistler’s lakes?) – and that water will feel hella good in the early August heat.

One Mind Game

Your Wanderlust experience should include one session that’s focused on what’s going on upstairs. It might be calming, it might be trippy, or it might be something in between – but you won’t know until you try. After checking out a class like “Introduction to Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction” or “Cultivating Sacred Space”, you’ll soon realize that there’s more to yoga than contorting yourself into a pretzel.

One Body Part Specific Class

What’s the one body part that’s always given you trouble? Address ancient injuries and those zones that hold you back in sports with a yoga class that’s focused on that one trouble spot. Free Your Spine, Hip Opening, Yoga for the Neck and Shoulders, and Duuude My Shoulders are just a few of your options.

One Artistic Adventure

Wanderlust is not just yoga class after yoga class – after all, there’s only so much yoga you can do in a 24 hour period. That’s why concerts, workshops, talks, and food-centric events are part of the festival’s programming. Check out The Wanderlust Spectacular for a DJ show meets Cirque du Soleil performance, or sit in on Design and the Creative Process, a workshop that talks about how a yoga clothing line comes to life.

One Uncomfortable Experience

Make the most of the festival by crawling out of your comfort zone. Sign up for a class that addresses something that gives you the heebie jeebies. Scared of back bands? Register for a back bend class. Weary of mantras? You know what to do. Growth, people, growth.

Get the 411 (including schedules, tickets, and teacher profiles) on the official Wanderlust website. Namaste, bro.
