The Art Of Action Sports

The Art Of Action Sports

Words by Taylor Loughran

For a long time, to get a glimpse of the people behind the lenses of your favorite action sports film or photos, you would have to go into the bonus footage on a DVD or wait for a paragraph write-up in the back of the photo issue once a year.  It has always been about the athlete and the super-human feats they have accomplished - and never about how it was captured or what motivated the photographer/cinematographer to capture it.

Over the last two years, different photographers and cinematographers have been putting out edits about not only who they are but what inspires them to wake up at the crack of dawn, put on a heavy pack (that’s worth the same as a midsize car) and head of into the middle of nowhere to capture inspiring images and footage.

To be able to get inspiration from not only the work these talented people provide us with when they return from the edges of the world, but from the mindset they have is new and will inspire the next generation to get outside.  There seems to be a common thread between people who work in this industry - we all want/need to explore and we always want to know what’s past that next ridge-line.  It’s that sense of adventure that will keep all action sports one step ahead.
